Course Objective:
- understand the fundamental elements of knowledge management, definitions and links between knowledge management, organizational learning, innovation and creativity.
- distinguish between the role and significance of key components of knowledge management including people, process, technologies and knowledge itself
- understand the need to leverage knowledge for business success
- identify the drivers and inhibitors of effective knowledge management practices
- apprise key knowledge management systems and technologies
- design and deploy knowledge repositories
This course introduces knowledge management, organisational learning and technologies. Candidates will develop skills and insights for managing organization knowledge and will be aware of how to develop a knowledge advantage through strategically managing information and information technology support people. The course will have three components. First it discusses the nature and business significance of knowledge; explicit and tacit knowledge; knowledge management problems, opportunities, benefits and values, and strategies and tools for knowledge management. In the second component, knowledge management technologies such as electronic document management, portals and shareware will be covered. The third component focuses on designing and developing knowledge repositories and covers topics such as developing requirements, analyzing existing documents and information sources, conceptual modeling, and representing models using XML and other relevant schemas.
